Eredivisie champions PSV secured their first victory since clinching their 27th league title last weekend, defeating Sparta Rotterdam 2-0.
Starting their campaign as the 27-time Eredivisie champions, PSV surprised everyone by including 18-year-old Belgian prodigy Noah Fernandez in the midfield, with Joey Veerman sidelined due to injury for Saturday’s match against Sparta Rotterdam.
After a few early chances for Sparta, PSV soon took control and began relentlessly attacking Joël Drommel’s goal. Attempts from Ricardo Pepi, Paul Wanner, Ivan Perisic, and Ismael Saibari were in vain as they sought to break the deadlock.
However, Pepi did manage to find the net just before halftime, expertly heading home a cross from Guus Til in the first minute of stoppage time to put PSV in front.

After the break, PSV seemed to take a step back and came perilously close to allowing an equaliser when Joshua Kitolano failed to direct his shot properly, tapping it instead towards Matej Kovar during Sparta’s best opportunity of the match.
Ultimately, PSV managed to secure their win with a second goal from the in-form Ismael Saibari, finalising the score at 2-0 at Het Kasteel.
