A World Cup hosted in the United States evokes fond memories for long-time Sweden supporters, harking back to 1994 when players like Kennet Andersson, Henrik Larsson, and Martin Dahlin led the team to the semi-finals. They narrowly fell to the eventual champions, Brazil, but secured a bronze medal with a commanding victory over Bulgaria, marking Blagult’s finest performance since they were runners-up on home turf in 1958.
Since that tournament, Sweden’s fortunes have fluctuated; they missed out on qualifying four times but, thanks to triumphs over Ukraine and Poland in the March play-offs, they also qualified four times. In their three previous World Cup participations, Sweden has advanced to the knockout stages, reaching the quarter-finals most recently during the 2018 tournament in Russia.
Graham Potter’s squad will be looking for a repeat of that success as they hit their stride at the perfect moment—indeed, Sweden made it to the World Cup despite not clinching a single win in their qualifying group matches.
Sweden’s FIFA World Cup Fixtures
Following the FIFA World Cup draw in December 2025, Sweden was one of four teams vying for the “UEFA Path B” spot, which was placed in Group F. Their success in the play-offs secured that position, setting them up to compete against Japan, Tunisia, and the Netherlands.
Sweden’s complete FIFA World Cup fixture list is as follows:
Sunday, 14th June: Sweden vs. Tunisia (20:00 CST local time, 04:00 CEST on Monday, 15th June)
Saturday, 20th June: The Netherlands vs. Sweden (12:00 CST local time, 19:00 CEST)

Where Will Sweden Play Their FIFA World Cup Matches?
Sweden and Tunisia will kick off their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign on Sunday, June 14th, at Estadio BBVA in Guadalupe, Mexico. Due to sponsorship agreements, the stadium will temporarily be known as Estadio Monterrey during the tournament and can accommodate 53,500 fans. Opened in 2015, it serves as the home ground for Liga MX’s CF Monterrey and is renowned for its stunning vistas of the Cerro de la Silla mountain.
Sweden will then travel across the border to Texas, where they will take on the Netherlands at NRG Stadium in Houston, TX. This stadium, with a capacity of 72,000, will be referred to as Houston Stadium during the World Cup and is the home of the NFL’s Houston Texans.
Remaining in Texas, Sweden will round off their Group F fixtures against Japan at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. AT&T Stadium, known as Dallas Stadium throughout the tournament, can host 94,000 fans and is home to the Dallas Cowboys. Opened in 2009, it was one of the world’s costliest stadiums at that time, with a construction cost of $1.3 billion.

Sweden’s FIFA World Cup Knockout Fixtures
If Sweden tops Group F, they will meet the runners-up of Group C, which consists of Brazil, Morocco, Scotland, and Haiti. This round-of-32 match is slated for Monday, June 29th, 2026, back in Guadalupe, with kick-off scheduled for 21:00 local time (03:00 CEST on Tuesday, June 30th).
A second-place finish in Group F will see Sweden take on the winners of Group C on Monday, June 29th, at 12:00 local time (19:00 CEST) in Houston, TX.

Should Sweden finish third in Group F, there is a chance they could advance as one of the best third-placed teams in the tournament. The potential opponents would depend on which groups see their teams progress, with five possible venues available: Foxborough, East Rutherford, Santa Clara, Mexico City, and Vancouver.
Sweden’s FIFA World Cup Preparation
As part of their preparation for the FIFA World Cup, the Swedish squad will play friendly matches against their Nordic neighbours Norway, who are making a return to the finals after a 28-year hiatus, and Greece, who failed to qualify, before heading to Mexico.
The warm-up schedule is as follows:
Monday, 1st June: Norway vs. Sweden (19:00 CEST, Ullevaal Stadion, Oslo)
Thursday, 4th June: Sweden vs. Greece (kick-off time TBC, Strawberry Arena, Solna)
