Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, and Nottingham Forest are among the clubs showing interest in Yoane Wissa as Newcastle United prepares for a potential summer transfer.
The forward joined St James’ Park from Brentford last summer for a fee of £55 million, but his time on Tyneside has not unfolded as expected.
Wissa has only found the net three times across all competitions, hampered by injuries early in his tenure and a subsequent slump in form that restricted his starts.
Newcastle are now willing to entertain offers for the 28-year-old, accepting that they will incur notable financial losses. Reclaiming the initial transfer fee appears unlikely, with the striker potentially available for approximately half of what they originally paid.
At 29, Wissa is reportedly keen on a new beginning, prioritising regular first-team football. A move to a club outside of English football could also be on the cards.
Aston Villa, Spurs, and Nottingham Forest all expressed interest in Wissa prior to his transfer from Brentford, and it’s understood these clubs have been informed of his availability for the upcoming summer window.
However, a switch to a club in Saudi Arabia is also a strong possibility if a Premier League opportunity does not arise.
Wissa was brought in alongside Nick Woltemade following Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool. Nevertheless, a disappointing season has led to a strategic reassessment at Newcastle.
Midfielder Sandro Tonali is drawing significant interest and is likely to be a prominent departure this summer, while manager Eddie Howe’s future also appears uncertain as the club contemplates considerable changes.
Newcastle’s recruitment team has already commenced efforts to refresh the squad. They are also attentive to financial regulations, adding further motivation to offload certain players.
