Kylian Mbappe and Antonio Ruediger of Real Madrid have received fines for misconduct following their Champions League match against Atletico Madrid. Both players have also been handed one-match bans, which are suspended for a year, allowing them to participate in the upcoming quarter-final against Arsenal.
Ruediger faces a fine of €40,000 (approximately AUD 68,000), while Mbappe has been penalised with a €30,000 fine. UEFA confirmed on Friday that their one-match suspensions will not be enforced immediately and will be subject to a probationary period of one year.
The investigation by UEFA was prompted by a possible violation of disciplinary regulations involving these two players, as well as Dani Ceballos and Vinicius Jr, after Real Madrid eliminated their city rivals, Atletico, on penalties.
The players celebrated exuberantly in front of the fans, with video footage capturing them dancing and gesturing towards the Atletico supporters, who retaliated by throwing objects from the stands.
Ceballos has also been fined €20,000, while no disciplinary action has been taken against Vinicius.
Real Madrid is set to face Arsenal in the first leg of the quarter-final on Tuesday, with the return leg scheduled for April 16.
