In a surprising twist, Leeds United has managed to steer clear of defeat against Manchester United in both Premier League encounters this season for the first time since 1994/95. They achieved a remarkable 2-1 victory at Old Trafford, marking their first league win on this historic ground in 45 years.
It was inevitable that the fierce rivalry would ignite a thrilling affair, and relegation-threatened Leeds wasted no time in making an impact. Just moments in, an early attempt saw Dominic Calvert-Lewin divert a cross from Gabriel Gudmundsson into the legs of Senne Lammens from a close range.
United failed to heed this warning, as Leeds found the net first. An unmarked Noah Okafor finished off Jayden Bogle’s inviting cross in front of the Stretford End.
Manchester United’s reply was rather subdued, with Amad Diallo providing their brightest moments—first slamming a shot directly at Karl Darlow before sending a curled effort wide shortly after.
Leeds continued to create the better chances and doubled their lead just before the half-hour mark.
While a bit of luck played a role, as Okafor’s distant volley took a deflection off Leny Yoro, Daniel Farke’s side certainly earned their two-goal advantage.
United could have found themselves three goals down at half-time after yet another defensive blunder gifted Leeds the ball near their box. However, a valiant effort from Lisandro Martínez on the goal line prevented Ao Tanaka from adding to the tally after rounding Lammens.

Micheal Carrick’s decision to hold off on any halftime substitutions almost bore fruit within five minutes of the restart as Benjamin Šeško saw his shot deflect up off the goalkeeper, only for James Justin to clear from the line and save United from going further behind.
However, that momentum quickly shifted when a bizarre incident involving Martínez pulling Calvert-Lewin’s hair caught the referee’s attention, eventually leading to a VAR review that resulted in the Argentine receiving a red card.
Feeling a renewed sense of urgency, United upped the ante, reducing the deficit with just 20 minutes remaining as Casemiro converted Bruno Fernandes’ cross at the back post, setting the stage for a thrilling finish.
In the final ten minutes, Leeds could have put the game to bed, but Calvert-Lewin’s header from close range went straight at Lammens. His miss nearly proved disastrous as Šeško’s follow-up was saved by Darlow, while Casemiro’s attempt was deflected off the line by Calvert-Lewin, leaving Manuel Ugarte’s follow-up blocked in the six-yard area.

Ultimately, Calvert-Lewin’s defensive intervention proved pivotal, as Leeds secured their victory to establish a six-point buffer above the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, United remains comfortably positioned within the top five as they prepare for a crucial encounter against Chelsea on Saturday.
