Harry Kane will not be participating in Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga fixture against Freiburg this weekend, though he is expected to be fit for their upcoming Champions League encounter with Real Madrid next week, according to coach Vincent Kompany on Friday.
Kane was absent from England’s recent friendly loss to Japan due to an ankle issue and has not recovered in time for Saturday’s match against Freiburg.
Bayern is set to clash with Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday.
“Harry trained well until Sunday, but he felt some discomfort in his ankle while with the national team,” Kompany informed the media.
“This will unfortunately affect tomorrow’s match as he won’t be available. However, I’m optimistic about his availability for Tuesday.”
“It’s disappointing; I was hoping he could play against Freiburg, but as it stands right now, that won’t be possible.”
Bayern currently holds a nine-point lead over second-placed Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga and could make further strides towards securing their second consecutive title this week.
However, they will be without Kane and his suspended backup, Nicolas Jackson.
Bayern’s sporting director Christoph Freund also confirmed that Raphael Guerreiro will depart the club at the end of the season, with reports linking the Portugal full-back to a move to Juventus.
“Rapha will be leaving us. It hasn’t been an easy decision because he is a fantastic player who has contributed significantly, and his versatility is a great asset,” Freund stated.
“But we’ve always maintained that we communicate our decisions with the players, and that’s what we’ve done now.”
Guerreiro has netted 12 goals in 89 appearances for Bayern since his transfer from Dortmund three years ago.
