The Kaizer Chiefs are set to embark on a challenging sequence of seven consecutive away matches in the Betway Premiership, starting with a trip to Magesi FC on Wednesday. They enter this fixture riding high after achieving their fourth consecutive league victory against TS Galaxy.
The 2-0 win has strengthened the Chiefs’ position in third spot as they aim to secure qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup next season. They have an opportunity to extend their lead even further against bottom-placed Magesi.
Currently, the Chiefs hold a three-point advantage over AmaZulu in fourth place, with two games in hand, which could allow them to establish a significant gap over the competition.
Co-coach Cedric Kaze believes that the team is finding its rhythm at a crucial juncture in the season. He attributes their recent progress to consistent team selection and a growing understanding of the tactical approach the coaching staff wishes to implement.
“The consistency in our recent results stems from the stability in our performances and the regularity in the line-up,” Kaze remarked.
“We’ve developed a game model focused on various methods to penetrate the box and create overloads across the pitch. I believe that now we have a better understanding among the players, which provides us with more scoring opportunities.”
While Chiefs have not been exceptionally prolific in front of goal, managing only 24 goals in their 22 league matches so far, it’s worth noting that seven of those goals have come in their last three games.
“Indeed, we’ve scored seven goals in the last three outings, and we need to maintain this momentum as we approach the final part of the season. I genuinely believe we create enough chances to score even more than what we have,” Kaze said.
He mentioned that the technical team has emphasised to the players the importance of maintaining high standards away from matches as they navigate the season’s conclusion.
“It’s vital to maintain pressure during training every day and outside of training—good recovery, early nights—so that everyone is aligned towards the same goal. Moreover, we consistently communicate in training that we must not allow ourselves to become complacent.
“We have eight games remaining, and as coaching staff, we know our objectives. We are here to support the club and will give our utmost in the upcoming fixtures.”
