Kaizer Chiefs secured a commanding 4-1 triumph over last-placed Magesi FC, marking yet another step towards CAF interclub participation in the upcoming season.
The win continues their impressive run as they begin a challenging stretch of seven consecutive away encounters, while Magesi missed out on a crucial opportunity to escape the bottom of the league standings.
Silva delivers once again
Chiefs found the net just after the 30-minute mark, thanks to a brilliant finish from Flavio Silva.
After a headed assist from Glody Lilepo, Silva, with his back to goal, turned and expertly placed the ball into the far corner of the net.
Prior to this strike, the match had seen little action, and his shot marked the first effort on target from either team, showcasing a moment of skill that broke the deadlock.
This goal marked Silva’s second in as many games and the third time this season he has scored in consecutive league fixtures, bringing his total to nine goals across all competitions.
Duba extends the lead
Just four minutes later, Wandile Duba increased the lead to two.
Magesi goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze attempted to claim a corner but ended up colliding with a teammate, leading to a spill of the ball.
Duba seized the opportunity, firing a low shot from a tight angle into the net.
This was the in-form Duba’s third goal in four matches and brought his career tally to 10 goals from 57 appearances (36 starts).
Shabalala adds the third
Mdu Shabalala joined the scoring party with Chiefs’ third goal in the 62nd minute.
Reeve Frosler, a substitute, had been on the pitch for mere minutes when he sped to the byline and delivered a cut-back for Shabalala.
After taking a touch, the midfielder calmly finished into the far corner, displaying composure, which resulted in his second goal in three games and a total of five for the season.

Magesi get one back
Magesi managed to pull one back, though the manner of the goal will leave Chiefs disappointed.
A free-kick sent into the box by Mcedi Vandala found Diteboho Mofokeng, who ghosted in between defenders to nod the ball home.
While the header was well-executed, it was disappointing for Chiefs as too many defenders were focused on the ball, allowing the opportunity.
This marked the first professional goal for the former Royal AM centre-back.
Mayo makes an impact from the bench
Returning from a prolonged absence, Khanyiso Mayo scored the fourth goal for Chiefs with a powerful header.
Again, Frosler was the architect, delivering a superb cross from the touchline perfectly aimed at Mayo.
The forward netted his first goal since September and just his second during this loan spell with Chiefs.

Chiefs’ winning streak extends
This victory marks Chiefs’ fifth consecutive league win, a feat not achieved since their remarkable eight-match winning streak during the 2019/20 season under Ernst Middendorp, a campaign that ended in heartache as they drew 1-1 against Baroka FC on the final day, losing out on the league title.
Such a turnaround in form is noteworthy, especially considering they had previously lost three straight matches before this current run.
Remarkably, Chiefs have not drawn any of their last ten fixtures (W7 L3) since a 0-0 draw with TS Galaxy in early December. Extend that across all competitions, and they have gone 15 matches without a draw (W10 L5).
Defensively, they’ve excelled, conceding just twice in this five-game streak while netting 12 goals.
This total represents 43% of their overall league goals this season, having only managed 16 in their previous 18 matches.

What’s next?
With this win, Chiefs have established a six-point lead over AmaZulu, solidifying their grip on third place and a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup for the coming season.
However, they are still 10 points adrift of second-placed Orlando Pirates, with a game in hand and an upcoming clash against The Buccaneers set for April 26, which could potentially narrow the gap to just four points. Is a place in the CAF Champions League still feasible? It seems a long shot, but one never knows.
Magesi remains rooted to the bottom, trailing two points behind Orbit College and Marumo Gallants, with all three teams facing relegation in the final stretch of the season.
Chiefs will be in action next on Saturday as they make another trip to Limpopo to face Polokwane City, while Magesi will host Durban City on Sunday.
