Kaizer Chiefs secured an emphatic 4-1 win over last-placed Magesi FC, earning three valuable points as they continue their pursuit of CAF interclub football for the upcoming season.
This victory maintains their impressive run, marking the start of a challenging sequence of seven successive away matches. Meanwhile, Magesi missed a crucial opportunity to escape the foot of the table.
Silva shines once more
Chiefs took the lead just after the half-hour mark, thanks to a brilliant finish by Flavio Silva. After Glody Lilepo headed the ball into his path, Silva, with his back to the goal, executed a swift turn and placed the ball into the far corner.
It was a tough battle until then, and Silva’s strike represented the first shot on target for either side, showcasing a moment of quality that opened the scoring.
This marked Silva’s second goal in consecutive matches and the third time this season he has netted in back-to-back league games, bringing his overall tally to nine across all competitions.
Duba doubles the lead
Just four minutes later, Wandile Duba extended the lead to two goals. Magesi’s goalkeeper, Elvis Chipezeze, misjudged a corner and collided with a teammate, resulting in the ball spilling to Duba, who powerfully slotted it home from a tight angle.
Duba’s effort marked his third goal in four appearances, and he has now reached double figures in his career, totaling 10 goals from 57 matches (36 starts).
Shabalala adds a third
Mdu Shabalala got on the scoresheet, making it three goals for Chiefs in the 62nd minute. Substitute Reeve Frosler, who had just entered the game, raced down the byline and set up Shabalala, who calmly placed the ball into the far corner after taking a touch.
This was Shabalala’s second goal in three games and his fifth of the season overall.

Magesi net one
Magesi managed to pull one back, but Chiefs will be left frustrated with how it unfolded. A free-kick taken by Mcedi Vandala found Diteboho Mofokeng, who evaded the defenders to guide his header into the net.
It was a commendable effort, yet too many Chiefs defenders were caught watching the ball, giving him too much space. This marked Mofokeng’s first-ever goal in professional football, having previously played for Royal AM.
Mayo’s return
Khanyiso Mayo, recently returning from a lengthy injury layoff, capped off the scoring for Chiefs with a powerful header. Frosler provided another excellent delivery from the touchline, which was perfectly set up for Mayo.
This was Mayo’s first goal since September and only his second during this loan spell with Chiefs.

Chiefs are on a roll
With this win, Chiefs achieved their fifth consecutive league victory for the first time since the 2019/20 season when they managed eight straight wins under Ernst Middendorp—a season that ended heartbreakingly for the team, losing the league title on the final day after a 1-1 draw with Baroka FC.
This recent resurgence is even more impressive considering they had lost three matches in a row prior to this remarkable turnaround.
They have not drawn any of their last 10 games (W7 L3), following a goalless draw against TS Galaxy in early December. Extending this to all competitions, they have played 15 matches (W10 L5).
The current run has been supported by a solid defence that has only conceded twice across the last five matches while scoring 12 goals.
Notably, these goals account for 43% of their total league score for the season, having previously only managed 16 in their first 18 games.

Current standings
With this result, Chiefs now hold a six-point advantage over AmaZulu in fourth place, firmly securing their hold on third position and a spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
However, they find themselves 10 points adrift of second-placed Orlando Pirates, with a game in hand and an upcoming clash against The Buccaneers set for April 26. A win there could narrow the gap to just four points, raising questions about the possibility of a CAF Champions League berth.
Magesi remains at the bottom of the league, two points behind Orbit College and Marumo Gallants, with all three teams having six games left to play. It appears the relegation battle is now centred around these three clubs.
Chiefs’ next fixture sees them face Polokwane City on Saturday in another away match in Limpopo, while Magesi will host Durban City on Sunday.
