With seven Serie A matches remaining, Juventus is determined to clinch a Champions League berth for the upcoming season. However, manager Igor Tudor emphasised the importance of concentrating on each individual game rather than getting caught up in calculations.
Tudor’s squad currently sits fifth in the table, a position that could potentially secure a Champions League spot, depending on Italy’s UEFA ranking. However, with a mere six points separating third and eighth place, Tudor was asked if this competitive landscape would influence their strategy for the remaining fixtures.
“Personally, it doesn’t change anything for me. For those who enjoy making calculations, like journalists and fans, I think it’s justifiable to indulge in it; it’s intriguing,” Tudor shared with reporters ahead of Saturday’s home match against Lecce. “Tomorrow presents another challenge, and our goal is to focus on tactical decisions while preparing for the next training session.”
“There’s no other way to approach it; such calculations are pointless and offer no benefit—they only distract.”
Tudor took over last month, stepping in for Thiago Motta, and since his arrival, Juventus has secured a victory over Genoa and a draw against AS Roma. However, the manager isn’t dwelling on what could have been had he arrived earlier.
“I haven’t reflected on that; I don’t dwell on the past,” Tudor remarked. “Both the past and the future hold little significance. I’m pleased to see players eager to improve and succeed—it has truly been a stroke of luck for me.”
“Their response to the situation has pleasantly surprised me. While coaches play a crucial role, it is ultimately the players who shape outcomes.”
Tudor’s appointment has been particularly beneficial for striker Dusan Vlahovic, who has regained his place in the starting eleven. In contrast, winger Francisco Conceicao has expressed frustration over his absence in the last match.
“Conceicao is a player I greatly admire; he possesses the ability to change a match, can dribble effectively, and beat defenders,” Tudor stated. “I feel for him not receiving playing time, as I understand their feelings, but with just one match per week, opportunities become limited. All players are essential, especially with the rule allowing five substitutions; it changes the dynamics of the game.”
Currently, Juventus trails fourth-placed Bologna by just one point, while Lecce finds themselves in 17th position, a mere two points clear of the relegation zone.
