A newly introduced Single Event Auto Test Licence simplifies and reduces the cost for individuals eager to take part in grassroots motorsport within a secure and encouraging setting.
This affordable $45 licence enables Motorsport Australia-affiliated car clubs to create an easier pathway for newcomers, facilitating access to grassroots motorsport at the local club level.
The Single Event Auto Test Licence is applicable to a range of events including Motorkhana, Khanacross, Observed Section Trials, Touring Road Events (which do not include closed road segments or speed sub-events), Touring Assemblies, and other non-timed road activities.
Bruce Astbury, the Club and State Competition Manager at Motorsport Australia, stated that this initiative aligns with Motorsport Australia’s commitment to eliminating barriers and enhancing accessibility for new entrants in the sport.
“Motorsport should be open to individuals of all skill levels, and this new licence provides a straightforward and cost-effective entry point for those interested in getting started,” Astbury explained.
“By streamlining previous procedures, this new licence will allow more individuals to enjoy grassroots motorsport at their community clubs.”
“The aim is to foster confidence, drive participation, and promote the growth of the sport from the very foundation in a cautious and encouraging atmosphere.”
Anyone interested in joining can submit a Single Event Auto Test Licence application prior to or on the day of an event via the Motorsport Australia Member Portal. Alternatively, they can complete the relevant Single Event Auto Test Licence form.
Once the application is submitted, the Member Services team at Motorsport Australia will activate the licence for a duration of seven days.
If applications are made on the day of the event, they may briefly show as under review. However, applicants will be approved to participate in the event, provided they have not reported any negative medical conditions.
On-the-day paper applications will be verified by event organisers to ensure all fields are filled, all declarations are signed, and no negative medical conditions are disclosed without prior approval.
