Carlos Alcaraz, the reigning two-time champion, has cast doubt on his participation in Roland Garros due to a right wrist injury.
In the coming days, medical evaluations will reveal if Alcaraz can compete in the grand slam event set for next month, as he shared.
“We’ll see,” he remarked when questioned about his playing status. The Spanish star attended the Laureus Awards in Madrid with his right wrist wrapped in a cast. Recently, he withdrew from the Madrid Open.

“The next medical assessment will be critical,” stated the seven-time grand slam winner during an interview with Spanish broadcaster TVE.
“We are doing everything possible to ensure this test goes well. I’m trying to remain patient. We’re optimistic; we’re just awaiting the outcomes. In the next few days, we’ll see how the injury is healing and discuss our next steps.”
Ranked No. 2, Alcaraz withdrew from the Barcelona Open just a day after receiving treatment for his wrist during his first match, where he secured a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Otto Virtanen.
The following tournament after Madrid is the Italian Open, which he previously clinched last year.

“For the time being, I’m focusing on staying positive and keeping my spirits up, even though the days feel quite prolonged,” said Alcaraz, who has been honoured with the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award.
The 22-year-old is aware of his long career ahead and insists on taking a cautious approach to his recovery.
“I have a lengthy career in front of me. Rushing my return for Roland Garros could have severe ramifications for my future,” he explained.
“We’ll see what the results of the tests indicate. I’d rather return a bit later than rush back.”
Alcaraz has claimed the last two grand slams, the Australian Open and the US Open, and lifted the Roland Garros trophy in both 2024 and 2025.
Should he regain full fitness, he would be a major contender for his eighth grand slam title in France this year.
