Supporters travelling to Philadelphia for the World Cup will benefit from complimentary transport after all six matches scheduled in the city, as announced by Philadelphia Soccer 2026 on Monday, thanks to a collaboration with travel rental platform Airbnb.
This development sharply contrasts with some other host cities, where transport costs are on the rise during the tournament period.
On Friday, New Jersey revealed that round-trip public transport tickets to the matches will be priced at $150, marking an increase of over 10 times the usual fare. In Boston, fans will face a $95 charge for a return bus journey to Gillette Stadium.
While standard fares will apply for journeys to Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority) will offer free train rides home, commencing at halftime and running for two hours post-match.
“My Administration has put millions into ensuring SEPTA trains remain in top condition as we gear up for a spectacular year of sports in Philadelphia,” stated Governor Josh Shapiro.
“I’m pleased that Airbnb is contributing to ensuring fans can return home safely and at an affordable price.”
Philadelphia will be the venue for five group stage matches, kicking off with the clash between Ivory Coast and Ecuador on June 14, as well as a round of 16 encounter.
