Motorsport Australia stands with the broader motorsport community in commemorating the life of Barry ‘Bo’ Seton, who has sadly passed away at the age of 89.
A distinguished competitor and an esteemed figure in pit lanes for many decades, Seton remains a significant part of the legacy at Mount Panorama, where he triumphed in the 1965 Bathurst 500.
Throughout his career, Seton made 22 appearances in the Great Race from 1963 to 1984, with his celebrated victory in 1965 driving a Ford Cortina alongside co-driver Midge Bosworth marking a highlight.
In addition to this landmark win, Seton achieved three class victories in 1976, 1977, and 1980, partnering with Don Smith in Ford Capris that he personally prepared, showcasing his remarkable mechanical expertise.
As the father of two-time Supercars champion Glenn Seton, he played a crucial role in shaping his son’s career.

One of their most cherished memories was in 1983 when Glenn made his Bathurst debut next to his father.
Barry was instrumental in founding Glenn Seton Racing in 1989, where he built engines and remained a steadfast presence within the team.
Family has always been central to Seton’s motorsport journey. His grandson Aaron has embraced this legacy, making his own Bathurst debut in 2022, which positions the Seton family as one of the sport’s esteemed multi-generational legacies, with a combined total of 50 starts.
Barry Seton will be remembered for both his remarkable achievements and his enduring impact on Australian motorsport.
Motorsport Australia extends heartfelt condolences to the Seton family and their friends.
Vale.
