Coventry City chairman Doug King expresses little concern regarding the potential departure of Frank Lampard, the manager celebrated for guiding the club back to the Premier League after a quarter of a century. This comes amid speculation linking him back to Chelsea.
Lampard, who enjoyed a distinguished 13-year playing career at Chelsea, has been appointed as manager twice, including a brief period as caretaker in 2023.
The former England international amassed an impressive trophy cabinet during his tenure with Chelsea, securing three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and one Champions League trophy. He also led the club to the FA Cup final in 2020.
In the wake of Coventry winning the Championship title this week, King remarked that Lampard is in a “happy place,” having secured his first managerial trophy.
“You can see how emotionally connected (Lampard) is with the city; it’s clear how much the promotion and title achievement meant to him, and I think he’s currently found a happy place,” King stated in an interview with the BBC published on Thursday.
“That said, it doesn’t rule out the possibility of a significant offer coming in for him this summer, at which point he’ll have to make choices, as he’s demonstrated he’s a top-quality head coach. However, I won’t speculate on that; it’s beyond my control.”
“I believe he’s happy, I’m happy, everyone’s happy; we all have smiles on our faces and we don’t concern ourselves with what might or might not happen concerning the head coach.”
Lampard is contracted with Coventry until June 2027.
Meanwhile, Chelsea dismissed manager Liam Rosenior on Wednesday, following a dire run of five consecutive Premier League losses that saw the eighth-placed side fail to find the back of the net.
Additionally, manager Andoni Iraola, who is set to leave Bournemouth this summer, has also been mentioned in connection with the Chelsea job in British media.
This Sunday, Chelsea will head to Wembley to face Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-finals.
