Chelsea Reports Historic Pre-Tax Loss of £262.4 Million for the 2024/25 Financial Year

This figure surpasses the previous record, which was set by Manchester City with a loss of £197.5 million during the 2010/11 season.

In contrast, Chelsea recorded a profit of £128.4 million in the preceding year, largely thanks to the sale of their women’s team to Blueco Midco, a subsidiary, for nearly £200 million.

The club attributed its recent losses, in part, to a rise in operating costs during the 2024/25 financial year compared to the previous year.

Chelsea’s revenue stood at £490.9 million, marking the second-highest income ever secured by the club, which included revenue earned from their victory in last year’s Club World Cup.

Recently, Chelsea acknowledged having violated Premier League regulations concerning approximately £47.5 million in undisclosed payments made under the club’s former ownership of Roman Abramovich.

As a consequence, the Blues received a £10.75 million fine and were handed a one-year transfer ban, although this penalty is suspended.

Unlike some other clubs in similar situations, Chelsea avoided a points deduction, a decision the Premier League justified by emphasising the club’s new ownership—led by US businessman Todd Boehly—who self-reported the discrepancies and showed “exceptional co-operation” during the inquiry.

For the three-year period concluding in 2024/25, Chelsea were found to be in accordance with the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR).

These regulations permit maximum losses of £105 million over three years, with certain expenditures, such as investments in women’s football and youth development, excluded from this tally.

Additionally, Chelsea revealed on Wednesday that their women’s team, who have dominated the Women’s Super League for the last three seasons, incurred a loss of £17.1 million, despite bringing in £21.3 million in revenue.
