Bayern Munich advanced to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League in a thrilling encounter, overcoming Real Madrid 4-3 on the night at the Allianz Arena, securing a 6-4 victory on aggregate.
Bayern’s slender lead from the first leg was wiped out just 35 seconds into the match, as goalkeeper Manuel Neuer strayed beyond his area while in possession and misplayed a pass directly to Arda Guler. The Turkish midfielder struck brilliantly from 35 yards, finding the net just as Neuer re-entered his box.
However, the hosts quickly shrugged off the early disappointment, equalising five minutes later when Aleksandar Pavlovic headed Joshua Kimmich’s corner past the hapless Andriy Lunin.
Bayern dominated possession for much of the opening phase, but it was Real who created the next clear-cut chance. After being played through, Kylian Mbappe was thwarted by a superb intervention from Konrad Laimer.
Kimmich was crucial again in the 27th minute, receiving the ball after a short corner was taken, but his powerful shot was expertly saved by Lunin.
Lunin’s moment of redemption came just two minutes later as Real Madrid won a free-kick from 25 yards. Guler demonstrated his ability to beat Neuer with a well-placed curling shot into the top corner.
Bayern responded strongly once more. After efforts from Serge Gnabry and Pavlovic were turned away by Lunin, Dayot Upamecano played a brilliant pass to Harry Kane, who controlled the ball and buried his shot in the bottom corner, restoring Bayern’s aggregate lead.
As the first half drew to a close, Vinicius Junior took the spotlight.
He first connected with a long ball from Brahim Diaz, curling a shot that struck the top of the crossbar. Moments later, he sprinted down the left wing and squared the ball for Mbappe, who rolled it home to give Real Madrid their third lead of the night.

Just a minute into the second half, Bayern nearly drew level again, but Jude Bellingham diverted Luis Diaz’s attempt wide before Upamecano’s effort from the resulting corner went over.
Real Madrid then had a chance to take the lead once more, yet Neuer turned aside Mbappe’s side-foot volley.
While Bayern controlled the ball, it was Real who looked dangerous on the counter-attack; Valverde’s shot tested Neuer, but the German side pressed on.
As the final 15 minutes approached, an inexplicable miss saw Upamecano head Olise’s free-kick wide from close range.
With just four minutes of regulation left, Bayern received a crucial boost when Eduardo Camavinga earned a second yellow card for time-wasting, and they capitalised on their numerical advantage less than three minutes later.
Luis Diaz executed a lovely one-two with Jamal Musiala before unleashing a strike from 20 yards that took a deflection off Eder Militão, sending it beyond Lunin’s reach.

This marked Bayern’s 17th consecutive match unbeaten across all competitions, and they stylishly set up a thrilling semi-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain. In dramatic fashion, Olise curled in the winning goal with the last kick of the match.
For Real Madrid, the 15-time champions, this represents only their second exit at the quarter-final stage in the last 14 seasons.
