Bayern Munich has confirmed a pre-season friendly against Aston Villa, scheduled for August in Hong Kong, as stated by the German club on Friday. They also revealed a match in South Korea.
Vincent Kompany’s dominant German side will take on South Korean club Jeju SK on August 4th before heading to Hong Kong to challenge Premier League side Villa three days later.
In last season’s Champions League, Bayern faced Villa, with Jhon Duran netting the sole goal to secure a 1-0 victory for Unai Emery’s side.
Led by English striker Harry Kane, Bayern currently sits atop the Bundesliga and recently triumphed over Real Madrid with a 2-1 away win in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
This marks Bayern’s second visit to both South Korea and Hong Kong.
Defensively, Bayern boasts South Korean international Kim Min-Jae as a key player in their backline.
Aston Villa, who are well-positioned for a semi-final run in the Europa League, indicated on their website that they “hope to announce additional fixtures in the Far East soon.”
As teams prepare for their pre-season tours, they must find a balance between financially beneficial trips and player welfare, especially with the World Cup scheduled from June 11 to July 19.
