Real Madrid have received a significant setback with the confirmation that both Arda Guler and Eder Militao will miss the rest of the season due to hamstring injuries.
As per club insiders, both players are anticipated to be out of action for approximately four weeks but are expected to return in time for the World Cup, which is set to begin in under 50 days.
Guler’s injury occurred during the final training session leading up to Friday’s clash with Real Betis. Muscle discomfort meant that the Turkish midfielder was confined to the gym, missing team drills, and further examinations revealed a hamstring injury in his right leg.
Militao, on the other hand, experienced a more immediate and evident injury. The Brazilian defender felt a pull during a tackle just before halftime in Tuesday’s encounter against Alaves and promptly signalled for a substitution.
Despite coach Alvaro Arbeloa expressing initial optimism following the match, an MRI scan later showed that Militao had sustained a hamstring injury in his left leg.
This adds to the Brazilian centre-back’s unfortunate history, as he has faced a string of injuries in recent seasons, including consecutive ACL tears.
Currently, with six matches remaining, Barcelona lead the La Liga table with 82 points, nine points clear of Real, who sit on 73. The two teams are set to clash in a Spanish Clasico at Camp Nou on May 10, where Barcelona could potentially secure the title for a second consecutive season with a win over their long-time rivals.
