Germany’s coach, Julian Nagelsmann, expressed his support for Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry on Sunday, who may miss the upcoming World Cup due to injury.
Late on Saturday, Bayern announced that Gnabry would be sidelined for an “extended period” due to an adductor strain.
The Bundesliga leaders did not specify the exact timeframe for Gnabry’s recovery.
However, various German media outlets reported on Sunday that the former Arsenal player could be out for between two to three months, which would mean he misses the World Cup starting on June 11.
“I’m very sorry for Serge. This is especially tough news at this time of the season, with so many significant matches forthcoming,” Nagelsmann stated in a message to AFP subsidiary SID.
The coach, who previously worked with Gnabry during his tenure at Bayern, added that he spoke with the 30-year-old on Saturday once the diagnosis was confirmed.
“I assured him that the national team stands with him. We will do everything we can to support him so that he can return to the pitch as soon as possible.”
This season, Gnabry has regained his form, playing alongside Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Luis Diaz in a dynamic Bayern attack. The side has advanced to the semi-finals of both the Champions League and the German Cup, with the Bundesliga title potentially secured as early as Sunday.
In his 21 league appearances this season, Gnabry has netted eight goals and provided seven assists, making him a likely inclusion in Nagelsmann’s World Cup squad, provided he is fit.
