Denmark’s leading striker, Pernille Harder of Bayern Munich, is a doubt for the vital World Cup qualifier against Italy at Parken Stadium on Saturday following a head clash during the 2-1 victory over Sweden in Gothenburg.
The triumph in Sweden came at a cost, as Pernille Harder was forced to leave the field after an hour due to a head collision, needing an ice pack on her nose.
With the next crucial World Cup qualifier looming, the Danes are set to face Italy in Copenhagen tomorrow afternoon.
“At this point, she’s making progress and sticking to the recovery plan, but with such a tight turnaround between games, we are taking it one day at a time, and the final decision will be made right up to the deadline,” said national team coach Jakob Michelsen.
The uncertainty surrounding Pernille Harder has prompted the national coach to consider alternatives, but he emphasised that there is no one quite like her in the squad.
“We remain hopeful that she will be fit to start the match. However, if that’s not the case, it’s our responsibility to find the best possible replacement,” added Jakob Michelsen.
