Kaizer Chiefs are set to embark on a demanding spell of seven consecutive Betway Premiership away matches, starting with a trip to Magesi FC on Wednesday. They head into this fixture on a high, following a critical 2-0 victory against TS Galaxy that marked their fourth straight league win.
This recent win has reinforced the Chiefs’ hold on third place as they chase a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup next season. A clash against the bottom-ranked Magesi presents an opportunity for them to further solidify their position.
Currently, the Chiefs hold a three-point lead over AmaZulu in fourth place, with the added advantage of two games in hand, which could help them establish a substantial lead over their rivals.
Co-coach Cedric Kaze expressed confidence, noting that the team is finding its rhythm at this crucial stage of the season. He attributes their recent upswing to a stable lineup and a growing understanding of the tactical framework the coaching staff has instilled.
“The positive results we’ve achieved recently stem from our consistent performances and a reliable starting XI,” Kaze explained.
“We have a game plan that we’ve been developing, experimenting with different methods to penetrate the opposition’s defence and create numerical advantages across the pitch. I believe our synergy as players has improved, resulting in more scoring opportunities.”
Despite their progress, the Chiefs’ goal-scoring record remains modest, having scored just 24 goals in their 22 league matches thus far. Notably, seven of those goals have come in their last three outings.
“It’s indeed encouraging that we’ve found the net seven times in our past three games. We must carry this momentum into the closing stages of the season, as I believe we are capable of creating even more goal-scoring chances,” Kaze stated.
The coaching staff have emphasised the importance of maintaining high standards both during training and in the lead-up to matches as they gear up for the business end of the season.
“It’s about applying pressure every day in training, maintaining recovery routines, ensuring everyone is on the same page, and conveying the message consistently that we cannot afford to ease off,” he added.
“With eight games remaining, we have a clear vision of our objectives. Our commitment is to serve the club to the best of our abilities for the remainder of the season.”
