World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler was not impressed with a reporter’s “terrible question,” following his impressive round of 65, which put him firmly in contention for the final day of the Masters.
This remarkable bogey-free round, at seven under par, marked Scheffler’s personal best at Augusta National after 27 attempts. However, one journalist seemed unsatisfied.
“That was a 65 today. What did it feel like it could have or should have been?” he inquired. (watch the video above).

Scheffler shook his head in disbelief. “That’s just a rubbish question. Next one. Awful,” he retorted.
The American ace ended the day in a tie for seventh at -7, trailing co-leaders Rory McIlroy and Cameron Young by four shots. His front nine score of 31 was the best he has recorded over seven appearances at the Masters, which includes two prior victories. He secured another birdie on the 11th hole but managed just one more the rest of the way.
“I suppose to respond to your question — it wasn’t that bad, but it definitely could have been lower,” Scheffler acknowledged.
“As I mentioned, I executed what I needed to do, gave myself opportunities, and if I can do more of that tomorrow, I believe I’ll be in a good position.”
Scheffler made a superb second shot from six feet on the par-5 second hole to earn an eagle.
His approach shots remained sharp, even if he wasn’t always able to convert on the greens. He missed a seven-foot birdie attempt on the third hole and settled for par after his tee shot landed in a bunker on the par-4 fifth.

He wrapped up the front nine with birdies on the 7th, 8th, and 9th holes. His second shot from 160 yards on the par-4 ninth rolled tantalisingly close to the hole.
Scheffler continued to create opportunities on the back nine, facing birdie putts from eight feet on the 11th, 18 feet on the 12th, 15 feet on the 13th, and 13 feet on the 14th, but frustratingly converted only one. He nearly made another birdie on the 15th, stopping just short of the hole from just off the green.
“I struck the ball really well today. I felt my iron play was sharp,” he remarked.
“I got myself into good positions and capitalised on them during the front nine. On the back nine, I did a lot of good things and was very close to making several putts.”
Finally, Scheffler added a birdie on the par-3 16th, only to miss an eight-footer for birdie on the 17th. His tee shot on the final hole found a tough spot near a tree and some bushes, yet he still managed a tap-in par.
A stellar round, but perhaps not stellar enough.
