World No.1 Scottie Scheffler expressed his frustration with a journalist’s “terrible question” after delivering an outstanding round of 65, positioning himself strongly as the Masters heads into its final day.
This bogey-free performance, which saw him finish seven under par, marked Scheffler’s personal best at Augusta National over 27 attempts. However, one reporter seemed dissatisfied.
“That was a 65 today. What do you feel it could have or should have been?” he questioned. (watch the video above).

Scheffler shook his head and replied, “That’s just a terrible question. Next question. Awful.”
The American golfer concluded the day tied for seventh at -7, just four strokes behind joint leaders Rory McIlroy and Cameron Young. His front nine score of 31 was the best he’s posted in seven Masters appearances, which include two wins. He added another birdie at the 11th hole but managed only one more birdie the rest of the way.
“To answer your question, it wasn’t that bad, but it definitely could have been lower,” Scheffler conceded.
“But as I said, I executed my plan and gave myself chances, so if I can replicate that tomorrow, I should be in a good position.”
Scheffler made a remarkable eagle on the par-5 second hole, hitting his second shot to six feet.
His approach shots were impressive, even if he struggled to capitalize on his chances on the greens. He missed a birdie putt from 7 feet on the third hole and made par after landing his tee shot in a bunker on the par-4 fifth.

He concluded the front nine with back-to-back birdies on the seventh, eighth, and ninth holes. His second shot on the par-4 ninth, from 160 yards, nearly found the hole but rolled past the lip.
Scheffler kept generating chances on the back nine, with birdie attempts from 8 feet on No.11, 18 feet on the 12th hole, 15 feet on the 13th, and 13 feet on the 14th, but only converted one of these. A near-miss birdie putt on No.15, just off the green, finished just a ball’s length from the hole.
“I hit the ball really well today. I felt sharp with my irons,” he expressed.
“I created plenty of opportunities. I took advantage of those on the front nine, and even on the back nine I did a lot of good things. I was really, really close to seeing many putts drop.”
Scheffler added another birdie on the par-3 16th hole but missed an 8-foot birdie attempt on the 17th. On the final hole, his tee shot landed near a tree and some bushes, but he managed a simple tap-in par.
A solid round, but perhaps not quite enough.
