Parramatta Eels icon Neville Glover has passed away at the age of 70.
The beloved character played more than 100 matches for the Eels and concluded his playing career at Penrith, later establishing a successful vocation as a police prosecutor.
Glover, renowned for his beard, will always be remembered for the moment he let the ball slip from his grasp while in the clear during the 1976 grand final against Manly.

Had he successfully caught the pass and scored, it’s conceivable the Eels would have claimed their inaugural premiership – a mystery that will forever remain.
Always taking his uneasy moment in stride, Glover was a fan favourite during his seven seasons at Cumberland Oval, where he notched up over 50 tries.

A local junior, he overcame that notorious slip in 1976 to represent both New South Wales and Australia two years later.
“He was a great bloke and embodied everything Parra stands for – very well-liked within the team,” Eels premiership great Peter Wynn remarked to Wide World of Sports.
“It’s a tragic day for the club.”

During his time with the Eels, Glover was part of the side that clinched their first two premierships in 1981 and 1982, though ironcially he did not feature in either of those grand final squads.
In 1983, he made a switch to Penrith for one last campaign before hanging up his boots – only for the Eels to again take out the title that same year.
