Australia’s chairman of selectors, George Bailey, has stated that the concerns surrounding Cameron Green’s injury management have been “exaggerated,” following comments from Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane earlier this week.
The 26-year-old Australian all-rounder made his debut for Kolkata, scoring 18 runs before the team suffered a six-wicket defeat against the Mumbai Indians on Monday morning.
KKR posted a formidable 4-220, but the Mumbai side accomplished an IPL record chase, clinching the victory.
After the unexpected loss, questions arose regarding Kolkata’s bowling performance, with Rahane specifically queried about Green’s absence from the bowling attack.
“You should direct that question to Cricket Australia,” Rahane replied with a smile, to which interviewer Pommie Mbangwa awkwardly acknowledged, “Oh, well, we’ll leave it at that.”

Wide World of Sports reached out to Cricket Australia for clarification.
The governing body confirmed that Green is currently dealing with a lower back injury identified after last month’s T20 World Cup.
“KKR has been informed and is fully aware of this situation,” a spokesperson from Cricket Australia stated.
Bailey has since provided additional context regarding Green’s injury while unveiling Australia’s contract list.
“He has regular check-ins, and one of those raised concerns about a slight issue that they wanted to manage carefully,” he explained to reporters.
“It was essentially a brief period of reduced activity which I honestly think was overhyped based on a captain’s offhand remark.”
“I’m confident KKR were well informed about Cam’s condition once he arrived and knew he would be back at the bowling crease quite soon.”

The Knight Riders secured Green at last year’s IPL auction after an intense bidding war, signing him for 252 million rupees (approximately $4.17 million AUD), a record for an international player in the T20 league.
Rahane is obviously eager for his star acquisition to start bowling soon.
“When Green is back to bowling, the dynamic will shift slightly,” he said following the match. “Currently, we need to evaluate our balance and identify bowlers who can perform well for us. While our batting was solid, establishing balance with our bowling unit is crucial.”
“So, hopefully, Green can resume bowling soon, which will allow us to assess if our combination will work well.”
Green has had restricted bowling duties following back surgery last year.

He did not bowl during the World Test Championship final against South Africa, nor in any of the three Tests against the West Indies that followed.
Green had limited bowling action during the Ashes series, with fewer than 62 overs bowled across all five matches.
His bowling was sporadic throughout Australia’s T20 World Cup campaign, and he didn’t bowl at all in his only Sheffield Shield match earlier this month for Western Australia, although he did score a crucial century against NSW.
However, he caused a stir by engaging in a bizarre confrontation with a journalist at Cricket Central when questioned about his recent form.
