Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner admitted to feeling ‘exhausted’ after his team defeated Aston Villa to secure a place in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.
Palace reached the final for the first time in nine years, thanks to a brace from Ismaila Sarr and a stunning goal from Eberechi Eze that ensured a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa.
The Eagles took an early advantage in the semi-final with Eze’s long-range strike, before Sarr added two more goals in the second half.
In the final scheduled for May 17th, Palace will face either Nottingham Forest or Manchester City, who will compete in the second semi-final on Sunday.
Historically, the Eagles have never lifted the FA Cup, falling short in their two previous finals against Manchester United in 2016 and 1990.
“All credit goes to the players. They had to put in a tremendous effort and navigate through some tough moments,” Glasner expressed.
“We gained control of the match, and it was an extraordinary display. The players adhered to the game plan, and we kept our composure throughout.”
“To be honest, I’m not entirely sure how I feel right now—perhaps a bit worn out. The players will have four days off to savour this achievement.”
Aston Villa, who last hoisted the FA Cup in 1957, were hoping to return to the final for the first time since 2015.
However, Unai Emery’s side delivered a disappointing performance and will now focus on securing a top-five finish in the Premier League to qualify for the Champions League.
“Once they scored the first goal, it became more difficult for us. We only reacted after it was 2-0, at which point we created several chances but failed to find the net. They are exceptionally good on the counter, and they deserved the victory,” Emery acknowledged.
“I apologise to our supporters, who were very motivated. We must accept this outcome and be quick to bounce back, as our primary objective lies in the league.”
