Reece Walsh is racing against time to secure his spot for the State of Origin after the Broncos announced the fullback will be sidelined due to a knee injury.
The 22-year-old appeared to suffer the setback just two minutes into his team’s narrow defeat to the Warriors on Saturday.
Despite being spotted limping and requesting help from trainers, Walsh valiantly played through the pain for the remaining 81 minutes of the match.
However, the Broncos have confirmed that Walsh will be out for as long as six weeks while he undergoes treatment for a PCL injury.

The club indicated that a more precise timeline for Walsh’s return will be established after he has further scans and tests on Tuesday.
This initial prognosis is a significant setback for Walsh, who is the current Maroons fullback and was in fierce competition with Kalyn Ponga for the coveted No.1 jersey.

In past series, Queensland coach Billy Slater has been quite strict about picking only players ready to enter camp and train for the entire week.
Adding to the woes for Slater’s squad, Harry Grant has also been ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Melbourne’s coach Craig Bellamy confirmed that Grant sustained his injury during the club’s final training session on Thursday before a match against the Dolphins.
The club has confirmed that the hooker will be unavailable for selection for the next fortnight, with further assessments to follow to determine his recovery plan.
The series is set to commence on May 28 at Suncorp Stadium.
