Dominic Solanke’s coolly taken penalty propelled Tottenham Hotspur into their first UEFA semi-final since 2019, as they halted Eintracht Frankfurt’s impressive 12-match unbeaten streak in the UEFA Europa League with a narrow 1-0 victory at Deutsche Bank Park.
The match kicked off with Frankfurt creating the initial chance, as Kaua Santos sent a long 70-yard pass that found Hugo Ekitike sprinting past Tottenham’s defence. However, Micky van de Ven made a crucial tackle just in time to thwart the Eagles’ leading scorer.
Despite soaking up the early pressure from Frankfurt, Spurs found their rhythm and came close to scoring when Mathys Tel’s curling shot was tipped over by a fully-stretched Santos. The visitors then earned a penalty after Santos collided with James Maddison inside the box.
Solanke stepped up to take the penalty and successfully converted, driving the ball into the centre of the net to put an end to his 11-match goal drought.
To maintain their slim lead, Spurs had to become the first team this season to keep a clean sheet at Deutsche Bank Park. They nearly lost that advantage immediately after the interval when Fares Chaibi’s free-kick clipped the post.
Nevertheless, Spurs remained a constant threat on the counter-attack, with Cristian Romero heading just wide from Pedro Porro’s corner.

The concluding moments saw Spurs endure intense pressure from Frankfurt as they sought an equaliser. Chaïbi believed he had found it in a close-range effort, but Guglielmo Vicario produced an exceptional reflex save to deny him.
Despite a series of late attempts from Dino Toppmoller’s side, Frankfurt were unable to find the net, ending their aspirations of clinching a third Europa League title.
Solanke’s composed penalty in the first half proved to be the match-winner, as Spurs snapped a four-match away losing streak, keeping their hopes alive for a first European title since 1984.
