The police in Dubai have detained an individual who reportedly caused discomfort to Emma Raducanu through what has been described as “fixated behaviour” towards the British tennis player.
The 22-year-old Raducanu was approached by this individual at the Dubai Championships, where he left her a note, took her photograph, and engaged in actions that led to her distress, according to a statement from the Dubai government’s media office.
During her second-round match against Karolina Muchova on Tuesday evening, Raducanu spotted the man in the stands, which prompted her to become visibly upset, and at one point, she was seen crying behind the umpire’s chair.
The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was labelled as “a tourist” in the government’s statement. Eventually, Raducanu opted to withdraw the charges, the statement noted.
“The individual has signed a formal agreement to keep his distance from her and has been prohibited from attending any future tournaments,” conveyed the media office of Dubai.
“Dubai remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all its residents and visitors.”

On Thursday (AEDT), Raducanu expressed her gratitude toward those who supported her and reassured everyone that she would be alright.
During an unexpected interruption in Tuesday’s match, Muchova approached Raducanu to offer her support.
Raducanu, who was still a teenager in 2022 when a man in the UK was found guilty of stalking her, returned to the court but ultimately lost to Muchova with a score of 7-6 (6), 6-4.

The day following the match, the WTA issued a statement confirming that Raducanu had been approached in a public area “by a man who exhibited fixated behaviour,” and that this same individual was noticed in the front rows during her match.
He was subsequently removed from the venue and barred from all WTA events pending a threat assessment.
Raducanu, who achieved the remarkable feat of winning the US Open as a qualifier, has faced ongoing injury struggles since then.
