Manchester City’s forward Erling Haaland has proclaimed that their upcoming Premier League clash against Burnley feels like a final, following a crucial 2-1 victory over league leaders Arsenal that has set them up for a potential ascent to the top with a win midweek.
Arsenal has maintained their position at the summit of the table since October, but City, with a game in hand, have narrowed the deficit to three points with their recent triumph at the Etihad Stadium.
A further victory on Wednesday would see Pep Guardiola’s team equal Arsenal’s points total, allowing them to leapfrog the London side in the standings based on either goals scored or goal difference, depending on the margin of their win.
“We’re treating Wednesday like a final. The match against Burnley is just as critical as the one we’ve just played,” stated Haaland, who netted the pivotal goal in Sunday’s matchup, while speaking to Sky Sports.
“We must maintain our focus and remain humble.”
Arsenal, in pursuit of their first Premier League title since 2004, will next face Newcastle United on Saturday.
