Holstein Kiel etched their name in Bundesliga history as the inaugural debutants to finish their first 11 away matches without a win, while Can Uzun’s inspired display helped Eintracht Frankfurt elevate their top-four aspirations with a 3-1 victory at Deutsche Bank Park.
Following their quick-fire goal against Bochum last week, Holstein Kiel aimed to emulate that fast start. The visitors pushed forward in the opening exchanges, but failed to breach the solid Eagles’ defence.
It was not long before Frankfurt took charge, presenting a significant threat to Holstein Kiel’s goal. A glimpse of things to come saw Hugo Ekitike’s deflected shot require a fingertip save from Bundesliga newcomer Thomas Dahne.
This chance sparked the hosts into action, and the Eagles finally broke the deadlock in their 21st consecutive home Bundesliga match on 18 minutes, with Nathaniel Brown flicking a header that was expertly volleyed in by Hugo Larsson.
Brown nearly found the net himself moments later, producing a swift turn and shot from the edge of the box that struck the upright.
Frankfurt continued to pressure the Holstein Kiel goal, doubling their advantage when Tuta volleyed in Uzun’s pinpoint cross, completely unmarked.
Things could have taken a turn for the worse for the visitors just before half-time, when Ivan Nekic’s handball in the area awarded a penalty to Ekitike. However, Dahne redeemed himself with a great save, denying the Frenchman a sixth goal in as many matches.
Frankfurt secured their third goal just shy of the hour mark, confirming their seventh home win of the Bundesliga season. Uzun intercepted a stray pass from David Zec, curling the ball into the bottom corner beyond Dahne.
In a minor consolation, Holstein Kiel managed to extend their streak of scoring in every Bundesliga away game this season. Finn Porath surged into the Frankfurt area and tested Kevin Trapp with a double save before eventually finishing on his third attempt.
After enduring a three-match winless streak, Frankfurt needed a response, and they delivered a commanding performance, securing their fourth home victory in five matches. Meanwhile, Holstein Kiel’s defensive struggles persisted at Deutsche Bank Park, with Marcel Rapp’s side having now conceded two or more goals in each away fixture this season, leaving the Storks facing a daunting task to escape the bottom of the Bundesliga table.
