Regardless of whether Barcelona clinch the LaLiga crown, a thorough review of both incoming and outgoing transfers will be necessary this summer.
The Catalan club has experienced another fairly positive season under Hansi Flick. However, they faced elimination from the Copa del Rey by Atletico Madrid, and Los Rojiblancos are close to continuing their campaign at Barcelona’s expense in the Champions League.
Casado restrained by Bernal’s rise
On Tuesday evening, the team visiting the Metropolitano will need to recover from a two-goal deficit.
During the previous 379 games that Diego Simeone has managed Atleti at their home ground (which includes the Vicente Calderón), only four visiting teams have triumphed by a margin of three goals.

The absence of key players like Raphinha and Marc Bernal at this critical juncture has undoubtedly affected the club’s ambitions. Nevertheless, when primary players are sidelined, it opens doors for others to demonstrate their capabilities.
One unfortunate player who might feel disheartened by his limited game time this season is the tenacious midfielder, Marc Casado.
Just six full appearances in 2025/26
So far in the 2025/26 season, he has only completed 90 minutes on six occasions across all competitions, which may explain why he has only recorded one assist this year.
At the age of 22, Casado clearly has a bright future ahead, yet he must ponder whether he envisions a career spent largely on the bench at Barcelona.
Last season seemed to mark his breakthrough, with 37 appearances; however, since Bernal’s return from a serious knee injury, Casado’s playtime has been significantly reduced.
This is mainly because, when fit, Bernal has solidified his role as Hansi Flick’s top choice for defensive midfield, with Frenkie de Jong also capable of filling in if necessary.
Will Tottenham or West Ham provide a new opportunity for Casado?
If Casado desires more playing time, a move away from Camp Nou appears to be the most sensible option.
Both Tottenham and West Ham have been strongly linked with interest in acquiring his services.
While his transfer value is still unclear, given that Casado once dubbed Barcelona as ‘the club of my life’, it would understandably be a significant emotional challenge for him to consider a future away from the club.
So, what would the London clubs be getting for their investment, assuming they remain in the Premier League and can entice the player to swap the Mediterranean climate for the unpredictable British weather?
Outstanding passing accuracy, but lacking physicality
Firstly, Casado boasts an impressive 90.6% pass completion rate over the past two seasons, a remarkable statistic given the crowded environment he plays in, where defensive midfielders have limited space and time to deliver passes to teammates.
Also notable is his tally of 186 ball recoveries, a commendable return considering his limited minutes this season. However, his success rate in duels stands at 53.1%, which could use some improvement.

Casado has triumphed in 223 of his 420 one-on-one attempts. However, he has also been on the losing side of 197 challenges, which is not an acceptable statistic for a defensive midfielder.
Winning those duels is crucial, and he may find it challenging to adapt to the more physical demands of the Premier League.
Poor disciplinary records
With a tackle success rate of 60.2%, Casado ranks among the top tier of performers in the Barcelona squad. Nonetheless, he has committed 82 fouls, the joint third-highest total in the team.
Only five players have amassed more than his 109 disciplinary points over the past two seasons as a result of eight yellow cards and one red card.
Considering his limited playtime, one could argue his rhythm has been hindered, and regular game time could enhance this aspect of his performance.
This line of reasoning also applies to his two errors that led to goals, a record that is regrettably the joint highest in the Barça team.
Whether or not his overall game offers enough positives to entice either Tottenham or West Ham to part with a significant portion of their transfer funds will only unfold at the season’s conclusion.

One thing that is indisputable is his unwavering effort and commitment, qualities that could greatly benefit two Premier League clubs that have often lacked such determination. Yet, to truly succeed, he’ll need to bring more to the table.
