The Western Sydney Wanderers have officially appointed Mal Impiombato as their new Football Director.
Previously the General Manager of Football at Western United, Impiombato boasts over 20 years of experience in football management. He has played an instrumental role in shaping various programs across multiple Isuzu UTE A-League clubs and national competitions.
Impiombato was pivotal in Western United’s Championship victory during the 2021-22 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
His experience extends to senior positions at Macarthur FC, Wellington Phoenix FC, and Football Australia. At Football Australia, he championed initiatives such as the FFA Cup and the National Premier Leagues and was part of the support team for the Socceroos during the FIFA World Cups in 2014 and 2018, as well as the 2015 Asian Cup.

Following his appointment, Impiombato expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, “I’m excited about the challenge ahead and privileged to lead the club’s football program.”
“The Wanderers embody immense pride, community, and passion, along with a deep and distinctive football identity.
He continued, “My aim is to build on the solid foundations already established and introduce a high-performance program that aligns all aspects of the club, delivering the ongoing success that our members, fans, and partners rightfully deserve.”
In his new capacity, Impiombato will collaborate closely with incoming Head Coach Ufuk Talay to develop the club’s football philosophy and roster in preparation for the upcoming season.
