Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi lit up the IPL with a stunning 15-ball half-century, propelling the Rajasthan Royals to a resounding eight-wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings.
After rain had caused delays and kept the pitch covered for two days, Chennai stumbled to 127 all out in 19.4 overs after being put in to bat.
Opening the innings with Test star Yashasvi Jaiswal, the 15-year-old was dropped on the first ball he faced but went on to score a rapid 52 from just 17 deliveries—securing the record for the third fastest fifty in IPL history—as the Royals chased down the target, finishing at 2-128 in a mere 12.1 overs.
Sooryavanshi’s initial miscue, a pull shot against Matt Henry, was surprisingly spilled by debutant Kartik Sharma, which allowed the ball to roll to the boundary.
With a blistering start, Rajasthan raced to 74 runs without loss during the powerplay.

He blasted four fours and five sixes before finally departing for a spectacular 52, caught out at sweeper cover by Sarfaraz Khan.
Sooryavanshi shared insights after his innings: “Our strategy was to take charge during the powerplay since we restricted them to a low score, and throughout the innings, Jaiswal encouraged me not to take singles,” he explained. “He kept saying that the ball was coming well off the bat and that I should keep going.”
Jaiswal enjoyed a front-row view of Sooryavanshi’s fireworks, finishing the match with an unbeaten 38.
Earlier in the year, Sooryavanshi made headlines with a stunning 175 off 80 balls during the U19 World Cup final against England, leading his team to victory. Notably, he had also scored a century at just 14 years old in the IPL last year.
