Arsenal’s Swedish forward Viktor Gyökeres has officially trademarked his iconic goal celebration.
Viktor Gyökeres, the Swedish striker playing for Arsenal, has successfully trademarked his unique goal celebration, following in the footsteps of various other footballing icons.
This news comes from the Swedish publication Expressen, which has gained access to relevant documentation from the EU Trademark and Design Protection Authority regarding the matter.
As per the details in the documents, Gyökeres’ application received approval back in September. The submission includes an image of the striker executing his trademark celebration, which features crossing his hands in front of his face to resemble a mask.
Notable footballers like Kylian Mbappé and Cole Palmer have also taken steps to trademark their goal celebrations. Palmer’s motivation for doing so was to have greater control over the commercial use of his personal brand.
“This was never about stopping other athletes or children on the playground from mimicking the celebration,” stated Palmer’s legal team in their explanation for the trademark, as reported by Expressen.
