In an exciting announcement, Manchester United will embark on a pre-season tour this summer, featuring two friendly matches in Sweden and one in Finland.
The Red Devils are set to visit Sweden to face two formidable opponents, both of whom are strong contenders for a spot in the semi-finals of this season’s UEFA Champions League: Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid.
On 1st August, Manchester United will take on the Spanish side at Solna’s Strawberry Arena, followed by a clash with the reigning European champions at Gothenburg’s Gamla Ullevi on 8th August.
Prior to these encounters, United will head to Helsinki’s Olympic Stadium on 18th July to meet EFL Championship outfit Wrexham, the Welsh club co-owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, whose remarkable journey from the fifth tier of English football has been highlighted in Netflix’s “Welcome to Wrexham”.
“It’s been a long time in the making, and it’s wonderful to finally bring this event to fruition,” stated Joel Harkimo, who was responsible for coordinating the match in Helsinki.
It remains uncertain whether Wrexham will still be competing in the Championship by the time they meet in Finland, as they are still in contention for playoff spots that could elevate them to the Premier League.
Additionally, it is unclear who will be leading Manchester United from the dugout during the pre-season fixtures, as Michael Carrick continues to serve as the interim manager of the club.
Manchester United has also confirmed friendly matches against Leeds United in Dublin, Ireland, and Rosenborg in Trondheim, Norway.
