PSV Eindhoven secured an important victory against FC Groningen on Saturday, triumphing 3-1 in the northern regions of the Netherlands to stave off a determined challenge from Feyenoord.
After suffering a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Ajax, which effectively saw them drop out of the title race, PSV faced Groningen missing key players Jerdy Schouten and Sergino Dest due to injuries. However, the return of Malik Tillman, alongside American international Richard Ledezma in the starting lineup, provided a much-needed boost.

Tillman made an immediate impact, curling a stunning effort into the bottom corner from outside the area, giving PSV the lead in the 11th minute.
Ivan Perisic, a former World Cup finalist, then doubled the advantage 15 minutes later, connecting powerfully with a header from a precise cross by Richard Ledezma, leaving Groningen keeper Etienne Vaessen with no chance at his near post.
Despite the early setbacks, FC Groningen remained tenacious and came close on several attempts, significantly aided by the creative play of Luciano Valente, who orchestrated much of their attacking efforts.
The Italian-Dutch midfielder was instrumental in Groningen’s equaliser just six minutes after PSV’s second goal, threading a superb pass to Dave Kwakman, who finished with a well-placed curled shot past Walter Benitez.
Groningen’s Stije Resink nearly brought the match level but was denied by a fine save from the Argentine goalkeeper.

The second half proved uneventful for Groningen as they struggled to create further chances against a resilient PSV side. Although Luuk de Jong thought he had added a third for PSV in the 75th minute, his goal was disallowed for offside.
In the final moments of the match, PSV found their third goal as Johan Bakayoko headed in a loose ball in the 88th minute, sealing the victory.
With this win, PSV maintained a five-point lead over Feyenoord, who earlier secured a narrow 1-0 victory against AZ. Meanwhile, FC Groningen slipped to tenth place in the Eredivisie standings, now outside the playoff positions.
