The accomplished defender has featured in an impressive 91 out of the team’s 97 matches to date, including all 20 games in their record-breaking 2025-26 regular season.
At just 25 years old, Barry has also taken the lead for the Nix during the absence of club captain CJ Bott, who is expecting her first child come July.
Head coach Bev Priestman has praised Barry as a vital component of the team’s core, embodying the values of the club.
“The outstanding performance we’ve seen on the pitch this season is largely driven by Mack at the back,” Priestman stated.
“She exemplifies professionalism and is a defender of world-class calibre.”

“When I recruited new players this season, it was essential they understood what it means to represent this city and country in the A-League, and there’s no one better than Mack to exemplify that.
“Her training habits are top-notch. Whether it’s practicing a passing drill or playing in a scrimmage, she maintains the same intensity and elevates the training standards.
“Mack is among the toughest competitors I’ve encountered, playing through challenges like mild hypothermia and rolled ankles this season. Her commitment to this club is profound.”
For Mackenzie Barry, extending her contract in the capital was a straightforward choice.
“This has certainly been the most enjoyable and successful season of my career,” Barry expressed.
“So why would I want to leave? The Phoenix feels like home to me. It’s my first professional club, where I was chosen, trusted, and given the opportunity to play consistently from the age of 19.

Barry believes that Wellington is the ideal place to pursue her ambition of being selected for the Football Ferns squad for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
“It’s a significant goal for me. Missing out on the last World Cup on home soil was disheartening. However, participating in the Olympics in France recently provided valuable tournament experience, which was amazing. I’m really hopeful of being selected again.”
Mackenzie Barry is the fourth female player to re-sign with the Wellington Phoenix in recent weeks, bringing the total number of confirmed squad members for next season to 11.
