Mohamed Salah Matches Wayne Rooney’s Premier League Milestone, Approaches Sergio Aguero’s Record

The Egyptian international and Liverpool star, Mohamed Salah (32), has matched Wayne Rooney’s Premier League record for goals scored at a single home ground.

Salah found the back of the net for the second time in Liverpool’s 2-1 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.

After Luis Diaz opened the scoring in the 15th minute at Anfield, Salah extended the Reds’ lead by converting a penalty 22 minutes later, following a foul by Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa.

He has now scored 101 goals in the Premier League at Anfield, equalling Rooney’s record at Old Trafford during his illustrious career at Manchester United.

The Liverpool forward is now just five goals shy of former Argentina striker Sergio Aguero, who netted 106 times at the Etihad Stadium throughout his successful tenure in England.

Arsenal icon Thierry Henry holds the record for the most goals scored at one venue in Premier League history, with an impressive total of 114 goals at Highbury.

Even though Brazilian Matheus Cunha managed to score for Wolves late in the match, Liverpool held strong to secure all three points.

Salah’s recent scoring spree, now at six consecutive matches, bolsters his pursuit of the Golden Boot, marking his 23rd league goal of the current season.

After joining Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017 for a fee reported at £36.5 million, Salah has cemented his status as a club legend, leading the team to both Champions League and Premier League glory while becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer in both tournaments.

His current contract at Anfield is due to expire at the end of this season, with several clubs, notably Paris Saint-Germain, keen on acquiring his services.

This victory brought joy back to Arne Slot’s side after their recent 2-2 draw with Everton. As a result, the Reds have increased their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points ahead of second-placed Arsenal.
