Paris Saint-Germain’s remarkable six-match winning streak across all competitions was halted as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Olympique Lyonnais at the Parc des Princes, a result that injects fresh life into the Ligue 1 title race.
PSG entered this encounter buoyed by their advancement to the UEFA Champions League (UCL) semi-finals, having skipped their Ligue 1 fixture last week to prepare for their midweek showdown against Liverpool.
As a result, they may have appeared a touch out of sync as they returned to league play, finding themselves two goals down within the first 20 minutes.
Indeed, less than 10 minutes into the match, Endrick scored his fourth league goal since his loan move from Real Madrid in January, driving the ball in off the post from within the penalty area.
Abner Vinícius was then thwarted as Matvéi Safonov deflected his acrobatic overhead shot over the bar, but this was merely a temporary reprieve for the home side, who soon found themselves further behind.
Lyon launched a swift counter-attack from a PSG corner, with Afonso Moreira remaining composed enough to slot the ball into the bottom corner.
In response, the hosts tried to claw one back, and after Gonçalo Ramos’s feeble header was easily gathered by Dominik Greif, PSG were presented with a golden opportunity when Ainsley Maitland-Niles was penalised for pushing Lucas Hernández in the box.
However, Ramos’s subsequent penalty was saved by Greif, proving to be a critical let-off for Lyon. Just before half-time, Lucas Beraldo sent a header over the bar, leaving PSG with a significant challenge ahead as they headed into the dressing rooms.
Upon the restart, Lyon maintained their offensive threat, with Moreira and Endrick forcing crucial saves from Safonov.
In a bid to inject vigour into his side, Luis Enrique introduced Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who did test Greif shortly after entering the fray, but the substitution failed to yield the desired results.
Ousmane Dembélé, another second-half substitute, came closer than anyone else to scoring in the second half, curling a shot against the crossbar while Greif was left standing.

Kvaratskhelia managed to pull a goal back with a spectacular long-range strike that found the net via the post, but ultimately, Enrique’s decision to rest his star players proved detrimental as his team could not overcome Lyon’s early onslaught.
The loss leaves the reigning champions just one point ahead of RC Lens in the standings, and although they still have a game in hand, their forthcoming match against the closest challengers could be crucial in determining the fate of the title.
On the other hand, Lyon, after enduring a six-match winless streak that put their UCL qualification hopes in peril, have now bounced back with consecutive victories, returning them to third place and putting their destiny back in their own hands.
