Panthers head coach Ivan Cleary has advocated for the continuation of the World Club Challenge, even though the 2025 edition has been scrapped.
The cancellation of this year’s competition is attributed to the Panthers’ participation in Las Vegas, with the two events scheduled too closely together.
Nonetheless, the matches held in Las Vegas highlighted the strength of both the Panthers and the Wigan Warriors, with Wigan triumphing over Sam Burgess’ Warrington with a score of 42-16.
In 2024, Wigan clinched victory against the Panthers, winning 16-12 at DW Stadium, following Penrith’s loss to St Helens at home the previous year.

Following his team’s victory over the Sharks, Cleary remained firm about the future of the World Club Challenge.
“I genuinely believe we should proceed with it,” he stated to journalists.
“It’s unfortunate that the game couldn’t go ahead. Today, we witnessed Wigan’s impressive performance; they’ve become a real force at the moment. Perhaps it’s a blessing we didn’t face them.”
“The concept is fantastic. While we didn’t have to participate last year, we chose to because we wanted to. Even in defeat, it was a tremendous experience overall.
“In fact, I think it may have benefitted us in this week’s match. However, I truly believe that this aspect of rugby league must continue, even if it’s challenging. It’s definitely worth the effort to make it happen.”

After the game, Cleary was also questioned about the condition of Brian To’o.
The winger was sidelined due to a hamstring strain but grabbed attention on Fremont Street ahead of the clash with the Sharks.
To’o showcased his skills with a backflip and the splits, all while dancing, even humorously clutching his hamstring.
Cleary expressed confidence that To’o would be fit for round two.
“Did you see him at Fremont Street? He’ll be right to go,” he chuckled.
“Fair dinkum,” added Isaah Yeo.
