League legend Paul Gallen would be “astounded” if Jamal Fogarty doesn’t remain with Canberra next season, and potentially for the entirety of his career.
The Raiders find themselves in a competitive race against Manly for the seasoned halfback’s signature, as the Sea Eagles have reportedly made an offer to the 31-year-old.
With the impending departure of club stalwart Daly Cherry-Evans at the end of the season, Manly is keen to secure an experienced playmaker to guide promising talents Joey Walsh and Onitoni Large as they adapt to the NRL.
Last week, Manly coach Anthony Seibold announced that the club would not pursue 19-year-old Lachlan Galvin, opting instead for a more experienced player as a temporary solution.
Fogarty fits their requirements perfectly, but Canberra has recently presented a two-year extension proposal to counter Manly’s offer, putting the halfback in a position to choose between the two teams.

“I would be surprised if Canberra let him go,” Gallen shared on Nine’s Today program on Monday.
“I understand that over the weekend they’ve come in with a two-year offer, matching Manly’s proposal.”
“He is vital for that team if they want to maintain their position and compete for the premiership in the coming years.”

Fogarty joined the Raiders in 2022 and has recently elevated his game, contributing to Canberra’s current third place on the NRL standings, having secured five wins from seven fixtures.
Gallen views Canberra as serious contenders for the premiership this year.
“I’m impressed with their squad and how balanced it is,” he remarked.
“It reminds me of my (Sharks) team from 2016 when we clinched the premiership. They have a hard-nosed, somewhat seasoned forward pack that can assert their dominance game after game, along with young, dynamic outside backs who are quick and thrilling to watch.”
“However, they do show some inconsistency. I really like Jamal Fogarty at halfback; he’s the essential glue that binds that backline, adeptly guiding them in play.”
“They possess a terrific balance, and I truly admire the exciting style in which they can perform.”
The Raiders secured a victory over the Titans on Sunday and are set to face the Dolphins in Canberra during round eight.
