Dominic Frimpong, a winger for Berekum Chelsea, tragically lost his life during an armed robbery on the team bus while returning from a Ghana Premier League match against Samartex on Sunday, according to the Ghana Football Association.
The assailants opened fire on the bus as it attempted to reverse, striking the 20-year-old Frimpong in the head. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital and is the sole reported fatality from this horrific event.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is deeply saddened and shocked by the heartbreaking news of the passing of Dominic Frimpong from Berekum Chelsea Football Club,” the statement read.
“This incident has sent shockwaves throughout the entire football community. The GFA offers its sincerest condolences to the family, teammates, coaching staff, management, and the entire Berekum Chelsea family during this profoundly challenging time.”
