Nick Kyrgios has opened up about his greatest regret in tennis, revealing that he remains determined to make a comeback to the singles circuit.
The Australian athlete has been largely absent from singles matches in recent years due to ongoing wrist and knee injuries.
His last significant performance came in 2022 when he reached the Wimbledon final and the US Open quarter-finals, showcasing his full potential after finally overcoming his health issues.

In a candid discussion with NBA star Allen Iverson on the Good Trouble With Nick Kyrgios podcast, the 30-year-old revealed that he frequently reflects on his Wimbledon final and the missed chance to reshape his career.
Kyrgios enjoyed an incredible run to the final, defeating No.26 seed Filip Krajinović from Serbia in the second round, followed by No.4 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas.
He triumphed over Cristian Garin in the quarter-finals and advanced to the semis after No.2 seed Rafael Nadal withdrew due to injury.
The final challenge came in the form of No.1 seed Novak Djokovic, who sought his 21st Grand Slam title.
Kyrgios took the first set 6-4 against the Serbian ace but admits that lead continues to haunt him. Ultimately, he lost the remaining sets 3-6, 4-6, 6-7(3).
“I played in the Wimbledon final a couple of years ago against Novak Djokovic,” Kyrgios mentioned to Iverson during the podcast.

“I won the first set, I was so close, just two sets away from potentially becoming immortal in the sport.” Kyrgios remarked. “I think about that every day, and it still bothers me, and people constantly ask me about it.”
“I got so close… I think about it often, but now my body isn’t what it used to be—I’ve undergone four surgeries, three in the last few years alone. I realise I can’t rely on my physical abilities like I once could.”
“In tennis, every player strives for Grand Slam titles; that’s all that matters. You can have a stellar season, but if you don’t secure a Grand Slam, you risk fading into obscurity.”
“I was on the verge of it all, and I just didn’t seize the moment. Now I’m still competing, but I’m unsure if I’ll get that chance again.”

After attempting a return to the ATP tour earlier this year, Kyrgios was defeated in straight sets at the Brisbane International and later chose to forgo a wildcard invitation for the Australian Open’s main draw.
He ultimately participated in doubles and mixed doubles events during the Grand Slam.
Kyrgios’ last singles victory on the ATP tour was recorded during the first round of the 2025 Miami Open, marking his first win since 2022.
However, a retirement from tennis is not on his agenda at this time.
“These days, I play for the fans,” Kyrgios disclosed on the podcast. “I still have a huge following. Now, I take joy in entertaining the fans and putting on a thrilling show, especially for the kids. That’s basically my motivation for playing now.”
Kyrgios has previously expressed his aspiration to compete in the grass court season and the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) events slated for 2026 as he endeavours to reinvigorate his singles career.
