Elfsborg have briefly ascended to the top of the Allsvenskan standings after clinching a 2-1 win over Djurgarden at home, thus preserving their unbeaten start. Meanwhile, Brommapojkarna secured a victory, while Hammarby and Hacken settled for draws on Wednesday night.
Elfsborg 2-1 Djurgarden
Djurgarden’s flawless start to the season was halted by a defeat to Malmo over the weekend, and their quest for redemption started on a hopeful note just 19 minutes into the match when Piotr Johansson nodded in a corner from Bo Hegland at the near post.
The visiting defenders were already under pressure when Matias Siltanen fouled off the ball during a corner, leading to Frederik Ihler converting the penalty to equalise for Elfsborg after 25 minutes.
The score remained 1-1 until the 88th minute when a short corner created chaos, and Leo Ostman’s presence led to goalkeeper Jacob Rinne fumbling the ball into his own net.
Elfsborg are the first team to reach ten points this season, although Sirius or Malmo could usurp them from the top spot when they clash on Thursday. The Iron Stoves stand at two wins and two losses for the season.
Vasteras 3-3 Hacken
Vasteras, the only side to earn a point against Elfsborg this season, extended their points tally to five in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Hacken, who managed to remain unbeaten after coming from behind multiple times.
The day’s standout performer was home player Mikkel Ladefoged, who opened the scoring just four minutes in with a header from an Ismet Lushaku corner. However, Hacken equalised shortly after when Jeremy Agbonifo scored from close range following a rapid counter-attack.
Just before the break, Vasteras regained the lead, with Ladefoged striking again, this time curling a stunning shot with his right foot past the goalkeeper.
The home side appeared to be on course for their first home victory since returning to the top tier as the hour approached. Jonathan Ring capitalised on a defensive blunder, feeding Ladefoged, who capped off a perfect hat-trick with a stylish left-footed finish.
However, the celebrations were short-lived for Gronvitt as they conceded six minutes later when Svanback transitioned from assist to scorer following excellent play from Mikkel Rygaard. With only seven minutes remaining, Amor Layouni set up Filip Helander to level the scores for the Gothenburg side, leaving them third with eight points.
Hammarby 1-1 Halmstad
For a time, Halmstad threatened to pull off a massive upset against Hammarby, but the title contenders salvaged their pride with a second-half equaliser.
The 3Arena crowd fell silent in the 10th minute when Ludvig Arvidsson’s shot was parried by Warner Hahn, only for Otso Liimatta to gleefully finish the rebound.
Despite dominating possession and attempts for the remainder of the match, having netted eight goals against Orgryte at the weekend, Hammarby didn’t find the breakthrough until the 58th minute when a corner found Frank Junior Adjei, who blasted the ball into the top corner.
With ample time to secure a winner, Hammarby ultimately settled for a draw, remaining in fourth place with seven points, despite scoring more goals than any other team. Halmstad, still searching for their first win, doubled their points tally with this result.
Orgryte 1-2 Brommapojkarna
After suffering a heavy 8-1 defeat to Hammarby, Orgryte faced their second loss of the season at home against Brommapojkarna, who claimed their first victory of the campaign.
Late in the first half, David Isso put BP ahead by flicking in a cross from Mads Hansen, but Orgryte responded mid-way through the second half when Christoffer Styffe headed home from a Tobias Sana delivery.
However, the parity was short-lived as Lukas Bjorklund, who had replaced Isso just 15 minutes earlier, tapped in a square ball from Rasmus Orqvist shortly after to secure the win for the Bromma Boys. BP now have five points, one more than their hosts after both teams have had four matches each.
