Djurgarden has started the new Allsvenskan season with two consecutive victories, though they were tested against newcomers Kalmar. Meanwhile, Malmo secured their initial points of the season by defeating GAIS, who remain without a win. Degerfors, for their part, comfortably triumphed over Halmstad while playing away.
Djurgarden 3-2 Kalmar
With a rapid start and a strong finish, Djurgarden preserved their flawless record in the early stages of the season. However, the details of their close win against newly-promoted Kalmar revealed a more balanced contest, as Kalmar continues to struggle with back-to-back defeats since their return to the top tier.
The Stockholm outfit took the lead just two minutes in, as Mikael Marques showcased his speed down the right flank and delivered a low cross that Bo Hegland slotted into the bottom corner.
Only five minutes later, it was 2-0 when Oskar Fallenius sliced through the opposition’s defence. After goalkeeper Jakob Kindberg denied his initial shot, Kristian Lien was quick to pounce on the rebound and convert the chance.
However, Kalmar responded before the 30-minute mark to level the score. First, Charlie Rosenqvist, a promising teenager, finished well from a Robert Gojani assist for his debut Allsvenskan goal. Shortly after, Achraf Dari capitalised on a poorly cleared corner from Melker Hallberg, heading the ball home to equalise.
In the second half, Kindberg made a series of crucial saves to keep the match tied, but with five minutes left on the clock, Djurgarden managed to break through. Matias Saltinen’s cross from the right found Lien, who headed it in, although there were claims of offside.
The Norwegian squandered a chance for a hat-trick when he saw his penalty hit the post in injury time, but the Iron Stoves had done enough to temporarily claim top spot on the table.
Malmo 3-1 GAIS
Malmo showcased a strong first-half performance to earn their first league points, while GAIS remained without a point. The scoring started in the 21st minute, with Jens Stryger Larsen delivering a pinpoint cross that Pontus Jansson met with a powerful header, which rattled in off the crossbar.
Fifteen minutes later, Malmo doubled their advantage when GAIS goalkeeper Kees Sims miscalculated a clearance, putting the ball right in the path of Oscar Sjostrand, who calmly rolled it through Sims’ legs.
The MFF supporters only had to wait another five minutes for the third goal, as Sims faltered once more, failing to handle a Taha Ali cross which led to a scramble in the box, resulting in Otto Rosengren poking the ball over the line.
Shalom Ekong grabbed a late consolation for GAIS, launching the ball past Robin Olsen after receiving a through ball from William Milovanovic. Nonetheless, Malmo had done more than enough to secure their first win of the season under Miguel Angel Ramirez.
Halmstad 0-3 Degerfors
Degerfors bounced back impressively from a 3-0 defeat in their opening match, inflicting the same result on Halmstad, who are still searching for their first points.
Suffering a goal just before half-time proved a tough blow for Halmstad, especially since they failed to clear a corner. In the ensuing scramble, Daniel Sundgren struck a fine volley that left goalkeeper Tim Ronning with no chance.
The advantage was extended just over 10 minutes into the second half, as Sebastian Ohlsson let the ball fall over his shoulder before unleashing another volley into the net, though Ronning should have done better with that effort.
The scoring was completed three minutes into stoppage time, with Nahom Girmai’s low cross being turned in by Marcus Rafferty at the back post.
