AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Juventus have announced a series of pre-season matches set to take place at Perth Stadium in August, following the cancellation of plans to host an Italian top-tier match at the venue late last year.
Discussions had been underway to organise a match between AC Milan and Como in Perth for February, but those plans were scrapped in December due to restrictions imposed by the Asian Football Confederation.
This match would have marked the first occasion a significant European domestic league game was held outside its home nation.
On August 5, AC Milan will compete against Inter Milan, followed by a match where Inter will go up against Juventus just three days later. Juventus is also set to face Serie B team Palermo on August 11.
Reece Whitby, the Minister for Tourism in Western Australia, noted that these matches would provide a significant boost to the tourism sector.
“We are continually witnessing the positive effects of these major events on our communities — enhancing our tourism industry, creating local jobs and supporting businesses while diversifying the economy of Western Australia,” Whitby remarked on Thursday.
