Australian snowboarder Scotty James has made history by winning his fourth consecutive X Games gold medal in the halfpipe, surpassing the legendary Shaun White, during the event in Aspen on Sunday (AEDT).
Displaying an extraordinary performance that included the McTwist on his first hit, a cab triple cork 1440, frontside 1260, backside 1080, and a switch back 1200, James achieved a stunning score of 96.33 points, leaving his competitors trailing in the halfpipe.
Securing 96.33 points with his initial run in the final, James then enjoyed a “victory lap,” having already clinched the gold medal.
“Winning a gold medal here at the X Games is incredible, and to make it four in a row, I’m completely at a loss for words,” said James.
“The triple cork is essential; it’s the trick that you need to include to have a real shot at standing on the podium. So to land it in my run, and to add my own flair at the beginning, feels fantastic.”

James secured his seventh X Games gold medal under the iconic lights of Colorado.
At 30 years old, he has now amassed a total of 10 halfpipe medals at the X Games, matching the record held by White.
Shaun White has accumulated 15 gold medals at the X Games, including 13 in snowboarding and two in skateboarding.

In the women’s competition, Japan’s Yuto Totsuka secured silver with a score of 93.66 points, while compatriot Ayumu Hirano claimed the bronze with a score of 92.33 points.
James’ success at the X Games followed his recent World Cup victory at the Laax Open in Switzerland last weekend.
The Victorian athlete is expected to be one of Australia’s standout competitors at the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are set to take place in the Italian Alps next February.
