In a span of just ten days starting Saturday, Barcelona will go head-to-head with Atletico Madrid three times.
The first clash unfolds in LaLiga at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, where Atletico Madrid has established a strong home record this season.
Atleti’s Impressive LaLiga Home Form
With an impressive tally of 13 wins, one draw, and a single loss from 15 league games, the Catalans face a challenging encounter if they hope to secure three points that would maintain at least a four-point cushion over Real Madrid at the summit of the table.
Hansi Flick’s side would also prefer not to recall their last visit to this stadium.

Back in mid-February, Barcelona suffered a crushing defeat in the first half of their Copa del Rey semi-final first leg, conceding four unanswered goals to Atletico.
While the Blaugrana managed a 3-0 victory in the second leg, it ultimately fell short to prevent Atletico from reaching the final, where they will meet Real Sociedad.
Barcelona Holds Recent H2H Advantage
Diego Simeone might have to reconsider his line-up for the third meeting, as it comes just days ahead of that Copa del Rey final, which currently stands as Atletico’s best chance for silverware this season.
Looking at recent head-to-head results since March 2024, apart from their Copa del Rey victory, Atletico has only managed one other win at Camp Nou in December 2024.

In total, there has been one draw (4-4) among the match-ups, while Barcelona has claimed victory in the remaining five matches (including the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final) with a total of 14 goals scored and only three conceded.
Atletico finds themselves without Johnny Cardoso and Marcos Llorente due to suspension for the league match, and they may also miss out on Jan Oblak, Pablo Barrios, Marc Pubill, and Rodri Mendoza due to injury concerns.
Barcelona’s Injury Woes
Barcelona face their own injury issues, particularly with Raphinha, who returns from international duty with a hamstring strain that is set to sideline him for five weeks.
Andreas Christensen remains unavailable, while Frenkie de Jong, Alejandro Balde, and Jules Kounde are all doubtful for selection.
A victory is imperative for both teams, as a loss for the Catalans would allow Real Madrid to close the gap to just one point, while an Atleti defeat coupled with a Villarreal win would see them fall four points behind Villarreal in the battle for third place.
This is arguably the best league finish that Simeone’s side can aim for, especially with Real Madrid currently sitting 12 points clear and two places above them.
Champions League Showdown Awaits
Regardless of the outcome in the first encounter, just four days later, the sides will clash again, this time at Camp Nou for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.
Post-match platitudes about it being only ‘half-time’ are likely to circulate, but should one side secure a substantial lead, it may prove decisive.

Barcelona has been flawless at home this season, and they’ll aim to remain proactive throughout the game.
However, complications may arise for the hosts, as Fermin Lopez, Lamine Yamal, Gerard Martin, and Marc Casado each sit on a yellow card and are at risk of suspension.
Atletico must also be wary of the same risk, with all of Clement Lenglet, Giuliano Simeone, Robin Le Normand, Thiago Almada, Matteo Ruggeri, Barrios, Pubill, and Llorente facing a similar situation.
Considering Simeone’s penchant for a physically demanding style, it appears Atletico may be at a disadvantage in this regard.
Before their third encounter on April 14, Barcelona will take on Espanyol in what is anticipated to be an intense Catalonian derby, while Atletico will travel to Sevilla for their match later on Saturday.
This looming threat of suspension for a prospective Champions League semi-final against Arsenal or Sporting will weigh on the minds of those players.
Moreover, Atleti’s key players could potentially miss the Spanish Cup final, increasing pressure on them to give their all in pursuit of remaining competitive in the UCL.
For Barcelona, despite Ferran Torres being just two goals shy of Lamine’s impressive 14 in the league this season, Flick is likely to favour Robert Lewandowski as the focal point of the attack, especially as the Polish striker looks to overcome his World Cup disappointment and lead Barcelona towards success, possibly in his final season with the club.
As for Atletico, Julian Alvarez remains a lethal attacking threat, yet after a taxing midweek trip back to Argentina for a friendly, the petite forward—rumoured to be linked with a move to Barcelona in the summer—may struggle to meet the demands of a full match.
An exciting series of fixtures lies ahead…
